Title: Best value Android phones mid-2026 - what would you actually buy right now?
Threaded Mode
#1
Phone contract is up and I'm trying to figure out the best value Android option around the £250-£350 range. Not interested in spending flagship money - I want something that does the basics well and gets software updates for a few years.

From what I've researched:

Pixel 8a - Google's software experience, guaranteed 7 years of Android + security updates, and the camera punches well above its price. Downsides: mediocre battery capacity and gets warm under load.

Nothing Phone 3a - Clean software, solid build, good battery. The Glyph stuff is gimmicky but you can ignore it. Gets 3 years of Android updates which is a bit weak for the price.

Samsung Galaxy A55 - Good AMOLED display, IP67, 4 years of Android updates. Samsung's UI is heavier than I'd like but it's genuinely improved.

Motorola Edge 40 - Often cheaper than its spec sheet suggests, clean software, good battery. Less brand recognition but solid track record.

For budget mid-range I keep coming back to the Pixel 8a mainly because of the update commitment. A phone that gets 7 years of security patches is genuinely more valuable than a phone with marginally better specs that gets abandoned in 3.

What would you buy right now, and what are you currently using?
